Orpheus and milter-greylist

For the last month or so Orpheus e-mail has been being
processed by something called milter-greylist-4.0.

As I recall, Peter Young has asked Paul Vigay publicly what
this does, apart from hold up our e-mail, but no explanation
has ever been forthcoming.

I have sent Paul an e-mail similar to this posting, hoping
that he can explain the milter-greylist delays. (Of course,
it may be some time arriving, since I assume that his e-mail
gets held up too, now.)

Today I received an important e-mail sent yesterday morning:

X-Greylist: Delayed for 24:49:58 by milter-greylist-4.0
(jenna.orpheusnet.co.uk [82.138.249.180]); Sat, 12 Jan 2008
11:17:01 +0000 (GMT)

Most of the e-mail I receive through Orpheus now gets held
up for at least an hour or so by this milter-greylis, making
prompt replies to customers questions impossible.

This is, IMO, without the benefit of further information,
simply an annoyance.

Righto. You shouldn't receive any more delays on your email, as we've added
your domain into our white list.

I'll get some documentation written up and put on the website, explaining
the various anti-spam measures and our various tactics/policies, and we're
in the process of disabling grey-listing so that the default mail process
is back as it was - and then if people want improved spam
filtering/grey-listing etc they can 'opt-in', which seems the best
compromise, which will hopefully satisfy the maximum number of subscribers.
